Many of the bones in your baby's body are starting to harden. Among these first bones to develop is the inner ear which is part of the reason why your baby might be able to hear sounds such as your heart beating or your tummy growling.
What they say my body should be doing and feeling:
As you settle into your second trimester you'll likely gain your appetite back. Eating healthy and getting enough protein is important at this stage as your body needs approximately 300 extra calories to help your baby develop. Equally important is continuing with exercising: keeping moderation in mind and do not begin any new, strenuous workouts.
How I'm feeling:
I have felt good this week. This was the first week that all of the students are back. This week is always a crazy week new schedules, new students, new anxieties, just new. All I can say is I have always been tired after work on this week, but I have never gone to bed at 7:30 or 8:00pm. Guess baby just wanted me to go to bed, because I slept through the night with the exception of a few pee breaks. My appetite is back too, but I still haven't gain very much more weight, still only at a 9lbs gain.
I think I have felt the baby move, but I have not been positive that is what it is. I am really excited to know that I am actually feeling the little Cleve move, and even more excited for Josh to be able to feel little Cleve.
I think little Cleve might have been dancing when we went to Best Buy yesterday. We were by the speaker and DJ section and they were playing the really load, and my belly just felt weird the whole time. It was kinda funny, but who knows what it actually was.
I told my midwife about my round ligament pain, and that it is happening 75% of my day, and that I was concerned that it was not normal. She reassured me that it was, but she wanted to check my cervix just in case. She did and said it was normal. Ya, just normal growing pains.
I also talked to her about it there were things I should not be doing soon, she told me to just use common sense and not to worry to much. I asked her about sleeping on my back, and she said it would be fine because my placenta will counter act any blood flow problems. However, I still feel better sleeping on my side, it's just more comfortable, but its nice to know I don't have to. She also reminded me that women have been doing this for centuries and that our bodies know what they are doing. It is reassuring to hear that. I really enjoy some of her more natural approach it really calms my nervousness.
The last thing I asked her was if I could ride my bike or not. She said I can, but it is one of the highest causes of fetal loss, due to the fact that pregnant woman often loose their balance and cars don't always watch for bikers. She also said if I was going on a trail with no cars it would be ok. I think I will just avoid that all together, there are not a whole lot of bike trails without places with cars near our house.
Now for housekeeping: Week 18
Blood Pressure: 100/62
Baby's heart beat: 150
Weight gain: 9lbs.
Enjoy Little Cleve's heart beat, but don't forget to turn up the volume it's not very load.
2 more weeks and we will know if Little Cleve is a boy or girl =).
We have been working hard all week long to make sure that we and the apartments were ready for the students to come. New student orientation started Thursday afternoon, and we stayed busy until we left at five, only to start all over again Friday morning at 8am. I was done around four, but headed back with Josh to go bowling with the new students and their parents. Saturday we started again at 8am, and the rest of the classes came in around 1pm and we started the move-in process. What a busy week. I'm ready for a nap, but also really excited to head back Monday and start the 2010-2011 school year.
Baby
Baby Size: 5.1 inches /onion
Baby Weight: 5.9 oz
This week your baby's has mastered some reflexes such as swallowing, sucking, and blinking. Your baby may even have a bout of hiccups.
Fat also forming underneath your baby's skin and will continue to do so in the later months of your pregnancy. This will help prepare your baby for the temperature change from inside your womb to the outside world.
What they say my body should be doing and feeling:
In the second trimester many woman notice more significant growth in belly size. And if you haven't noticed round ligament pain before, you're likely to feel it now as your uterus continues to increase in size and pushing your intestines upward. You may have also noticed that you've started to shift your weight to help balance your belly.
How I'm feeling:
I can definitely feel the round ligament pains. They are uncomfortable, but not painful. More annoying then anything. I know these are all normal, but I still feel like maybe there is something else going on. Good thing I go to the doctor next Monday, so I ask the question. I am also going to talk to her if she thinks I should get the flu shot or not. The only time I got the flu shot I got the flu, but I don't want to harm the baby, so we will see. I have also started to finally gain weight, a whole 9 lbs. I also love food again, so excited about that too.
We have been trying to plan a trip with Jon and Bridget all summer, but trying to coordinate our schedules seemed next to impossible. This last week we started talking about hanging out this weekend and going to see their new place. It was so exciting when we realized we all had Saturday off.
Now the question was what to do, and should we bring the dogs. A decision was made, Wisconsin Dells without the dogs. I called the doctor to see if I could go on any of the water slides; they said no, absolutely not. I decided that I wanted to go any way and I would just enjoy the other parts of the park.
Friday night we headed out at around 6, but didn't get there until close to 11, due to the heavy rain and stopping for dinner. When we got to the hotel we played some games and I enjoyed some St Pauli's Nonalcoholic beer, while they drink mixed drinks.
Saturday morning we headed to the Dells. We got the package Noah's Arc, Original Duck rides, and Pirates Cove golf, and you get 20% the whole purchase. We had a great day outside. I loved being able to watch their faces as they went down some of the crazy rides. The duck rides where fun too, it was nice to see the beauty of the city. We never made it to the mini golf, because food just seemed more important when your starving, but all in all it was a great day. After dinner we headed back to hotel and we all feel asleep quickly.
We left by 7am Sunday morning because poor Jon had to work at noon. We can't wait to do it again soon.
I know this is going to sound weird for those of you that really know me, but I didn't take any pictures of the whole weekend.
Baby Baby Size: 4.6 inches /avocado Baby Weight: 3.5 oz This week your baby's limbs are much more developed, legs and arms are longer and are becoming more controlled in movement.
Your Baby's skeletal system is developing more as calcium is depositing into the bones. Over the next couple of weeks your baby's weight will double.
What they say my body should be doing and feeling: Well into your second trimester, you're probably feeling a lot better as most of the first trimester symptoms continue to go away. You'll probably begin to notice stretching or discomfort around your navel and surrounding abdominal area. This is caused by the round ligaments when they stretch and thicken to support your growing uterus.
If your lucky, you may have felt your baby kick for the first time. This is one of the most special moments in your pregnancy. This experience is also called quickening, and you may begin to feel this fluttery sensation now or in the coming weeks. Most women report noticing their baby move around weeks 16 to 22.
How I'm feeling: I am starting to feel better, but still having difficulty breathing especially at night. I often wake up in the middle of the night to go pee, and they I proceed to start sneezing and my nose starts running like crazy. Thus, I am up for the next 3 hours wide awake unable to fall back to sleep. Ugg... It may have a lot to do with the fact that this is my first week back to work full time in awhile and we are sitting a lot to discuss changes and the upcoming school year. Mind you it is all good information, but my back lower abs and butt start to hurt from sitting in those chairs for so long at one time. I have to get up often to be comfortable and even brought a pillow, but it is still difficult. I have also noticed that it is really hard for me to focus if more then one person is talking at a time, which I use to be able to tune that out. Should be an interesting school year. I can't wait for the students to come back, less sitting and more movement can't wait.

week 16 uncovered
By the way we will be finding out the sex of our baby on September 7th, which is also by brother Charlie's birthday. Expect an update that night after I get off work.
OK it is not the original idea of the forest theme, but when we started registering at Babies R Us Josh wanted me to register for every monkey item in the store. I finally asked him do you want a monkey room. His response "Well monkey's make me laugh so they will make the baby laugh too", that was after we had already registered for the forest stuff. However, he was too cute. Monkeys won.
"Baby Bump" from my phone app is back. So excited! No more looking on the Internet to get my updates.
Week Fifteen:
Baby Baby Size: 4 inches /navel orange Baby Weight: 2.5 oz The hair on your baby's head is growing in and the follicles will make pigment if your baby has dark hair. Around your body, there's still fine hair (lanugo) to protect against being constantly exposed to the amniotic fluids. Your baby's skin is thin and nearly translucent and if you were to take a look inside your womb you'd see small blood vessels forming underneath the skin. Some babies may even be starting to suck their thumb around this time.
What they say my body should be doing and feeling: As your body continues to make more blood this month, it's especially important that you get enough iron in your diet to keep up with red blood cell production and to avoid becoming anemic. This increased blood production may still be causing your mucous membranes to swell giving you a stuff nose or more frequent nosebleeds. How I'm feeling: I am definitely feeling the sinuses the are killing me even making my vision blurry sometimes. Doesn’t help that I already have one side blocked off. Grrrr… Otherwise starting to feel better even sleeping better. I feel like my belly popped out over night, you can definitely tell that I am pregnant now, and I can now start to fit into more of my maternity shirts without feeling like I am drowning in it. The cutest thing I heard this week. My Uncle Gene whom I haven’t seen since my grandma’s funeral told me “Your Glowing” then when were leaving he told me “I’m really happy for you, your going to make a great mother”. I didn’t know I glowed, hehehe, and it was really sweet to hear that from an uncle I usually only get to see every three years.
Yesterday I went and babysat my nephews and hung out with my sister-in-law Angela. It was so nice to talk to her about unrealistic fears I have had. She also gave me a ton of baby stuff that they no longer need.
We now have a high chair, Infant bath, more maternity cloths, a baby bjorn, back back diaper bag, baby clothes, portable high chair, and more. We still have to look through the bins, but if we are not having a boy Jess and Stevi are going to get some cute baby boy clothes.
Then after dinner Angela, Max and I headed to Target to start the baby registry. It was so fun to have a mom come with me and tell me you don't need that it just takes up space, or I loved that. It was also really fun to have my nephew come along and tell me what the baby would really like (You know Buzz Lightyear). However it was really cute when he started to scan things with the gun. I still have to look at it and make sure they are all things we wanted hehehe
Today I started looking at bedding, I never knew there were so many choices. Here are some of the ones I liked. We want to go with a forest theme (not jungle) turtles, frogs, ducks, owls, etc. Click on the name to see the picture.
