The features on your baby's face are becoming more defined. The eyes have moved towards the front of the face and the chin and nose have taken more shape. Your baby's tiny fingernails are now well formed on fingers that will soon be able to open and close. In your baby's brain, synapses are rapidly growing.

Body

Inside your body, your uterus continues to rise out of your pelvic area. You might even be able to feel the top of your uterus a few inches below your belly button.

Some women also notice changes in their skin such as a darkening along the midline (linea nigra), or development of brown patches on the face, most often called chloasma or mask of pregnancy. Fortunately, most of these symptoms disappear after pregnancy.

I actually started to get morning sickness this week.  However, it was really hard to tell if I was getting sick from just being sick, or if it was actually morning sickness.

Christmas Wrap-up Iowa Style

We headed to Iowa on Dec 22nd (Happy Birthday Roxxie & Sophia)

We didn't celebrate Christmas until the 23rd though with the Cleveland's.  This is the first time we have been able to spend Christmas time together in two years.

Ultrasound #2 for Little Cleve #2

When we went to the first ultrasound they couldn't date the pregnancy so my midwife wanted me to go again to ensure we have the correct due date.  Our baby was a mover that day which made it hard to get it's measurement (as you can see by the dating on the bottom).  However they are very confident that our baby is due July 9th 2013.

It was kinda fun to bring Bo along for this one since Josh had to go to work, she really liked seeing the baby, and was really sad when she couldn't see it anymore.  We love talking to her about the baby, and she loves to say that she is going to have a sister.  Which is really fun because when we first told her she really wanted a brother.  I guess we will just have to wait and see.

This week your baby is officially developed enough to be called a fetus. The good news is that the most critical part of your baby's organ system development is over. Your baby will grow very rapidly and will double in size by next week.

On your baby's head, the ears are moving to the side of the head. Reproductive organs are becoming more distinguished.

Body

More than 75% of all pregnant women experience some degree of morning sickness. The good news is that as you approach your second trimester this often subsides and you'll find yourself less fatigued during the day.

Inside your body, your uterus is starting to get to be too big to fit in your pelvic area and will begin to rise up into your abdomen over the next few weeks.

The tenth week marks the beginning of a critical period in your baby's development when all the vital organs have formed and are beginning to function. Your baby is also growing tiny nails on the fingers and toes as well as tiny buds for teeth.

Body

Your regular clothes might be starting to feel a little snug, but this may just be due to bloating, a common symptom caused by your slowing digestive system which is hard at work maximizing absorption of all the nutrients from the food you ingest.

By this week, if you have a prenatal exam your medical practitioner may listen to your baby's heartbeat using a Doppler stethoscope. Many women have compared the rapid thumping sound to that of galloping horses.

This week the embryonic tail disappears. The hands and feet look a lot less like paddles and have more formed fingers and toes. These changes give your baby a more human shape. Your baby's head is still larger than the rest of the body and the eyes are fully developed, but are covered by the eyelids which are fused shut for the next 16 weeks or so.

Inside your baby's body the internal reproductive organs, testes or ovaries, are starting to form but will not be quite distinguishable until the next couple of weeks.

Body

Even as your waistline expands you still won't look pregnant. However, one of the most dramatic changes during pregnancy is your blood volume. You will create approximately 50% more blood, your body's way of helping your uterus grow as well as carry more oxygen and nutrients to your baby. More blood also means your heart is working harder to pump it through your body and your blood vessels will dilate faster and you might find yourself short of breath more often.

Wow Thanksgiving was over a week ago...

We headed to Iowa for Thanksgiving this year.

It took us a little longer then usual.  (we had to make a few stops along the way)

When we got there Stevi, Chad and Van came over to visit, it was fun to watch Bo and Van play together.

Then on Friday we headed to the festival of trees, and watched the kids enjoy all of the trees and the North Pole as well as seeing Santa for the first time.

By now, your baby's head is proportionally larger than the rest of the body and the ears and eyelids are developing. Fingers and toes are developing from the arm and leg buds which now have distinguished wrists and elbows that can even flex. At this stage your baby's heart rate is around 150 beats per minute.

Body

As your baby grows, your uterus is also expanding. By now your uterus is almost the size of a grapefruit which is why it's common to feel abdominal cramping or even a tightening or contraction-like pain. Consult your healthcare provider if you notice bleeding following your contractions.

 The big thing for me is that none of my clothes fit me already.

Your Baby

This week your baby's brain is becoming more complex and is developing cavities and passages vital for circulating spinal fluid. Your baby's face is also becoming more defined with the lenses of the eyes and middle part of the ear forming. Tiny arms, legs, hands and feet are also just beginning to bud.

Your Body

Every woman's body reacts and develops differently during pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, you may be gaining weight at this point but it still won't be evident to people around you. If you're experiencing morning sickness you may have actually lost a few pounds.

Second time moms often experience the "warm up" effect in which their previously stretched out uterus and abdominal muscles "show" their baby bump a little earlier.

I continue to just feel bloated, fat and tired, but overall this pregnancy seems much easier.

Baby Cleveland #2 week 6

We told our families this week, it was fun to see their reactions and hear their excitement for us.

Week 6

Baby Size: 0.25 in; small pea
Baby Weight: less than .04 oz

Baby: Your baby is rapidly growing and will triple in size this week. Basic facial features such as eyes and ears are becoming more developed and the neural groove will have closed by this time. The tiny heart is starting to pump blood. Along the mid-line, 40 tiny blocks of tissue are developing which will eventually become the backbone, ribs, and muscles of your baby's back and sides.

Body: As it's still early in the first trimester you may not notice much change in your weight or waist size. Some women begin to experience morning sickness, common between week six all the way until your second trimester. You may also feel more moody and emotional than usual due to the newly fluctuating hormone levels.

I had my first official Midwife appointment  11/13/12
I have gained a couple pounds already wow!
Blood Pressure: 98/60
All test results came back normal except my Vit. D levels are low,  so I have to take 4000IU of Vit. D3 once a day.  They plan to recheck the levels when I do my glucose test.
I also was told my uterus is tilted to the right, which I was really worried about until I went back to look at my midwife appointment with Bo, and it was tilted then too.  It is amazing how quickly you forget things like that.  However that gets me an ultrasound appointment as soon as I can make the appointment.  I love early ultra sounds they make it feel so much more real, and helps me feel better hearing the heart beat.


I haven't taken as many pictures this time because I just feel bloated and too tired to take any pictures that might be desirable for prosperity.

Ultra sound Baby Cleveland #2

After my midwife appointment I had a ultra sound because she was worried about a couple things.

1. My uterus was tilted

2. It was hard to find my cervix

3. I was having right abdominal pain.

Her concerns about that were if I had a fibroid  or a cyst that was preventing the uterus to be straight up, or that I may have a tubular pregnancy.  I was a little worried about it, but I didn't tell Josh because I knew he would worry which would make me worry.

I did look back at my first appointment with Bo though and my uterus was tilted then too, so maybe that was just normal for me.

Josh and I went to the appointment together, and I figured it would be easier for the doctor to tell him something was wrong then for me to explain it if there was.

Luckily though we have ONE healthy baby with a heart beat.  Our baby may be to small to measure, but we could see it's little heart beat pumping away.  It's so weird to think that by 6 weeks a baby has a heart.

Either way we are so excited that everything is fine, and our baby is exactly were it needs to be.

Meeting Baby Ada

I have been looking forward to meeting and holding Ada since the day she was born, but our schedules just never matched.  So this last weekend Josh, Bo, Pistol and I headed to Ames to spend some quality time with Jess, Mitch, Maddox, Grady, and Ada.  Ada is such a sweet baby and I had forgotten how fun it is to hold a tiny baby and have them fall asleep in your arms.  I also love watching Bo play with her cousins and get to know her aunt and uncle better too.

Pistol loved playing Fetch with Maddox, and Bo loved doing what ever Maddox did.

I was so impressed with how well Bo did with me holding Ada (I think she held her for a good 5 minutes before she got fussy, leaving many opportunities to get good pictures and how well she did holding her).  She talked about Ada for a good hour after we left on Sunday, and kept asking to see this picture on my phone.  I think she is ready to be the "older" cousin, and show her the ropes.

Thanks Jess and Mitch for having us for the weekend.  It was very therapeutic.
