Baby Bump #2 Week 38 & Hospital Tour

Week 38
Baby Size
19.75 in
leek
Baby Weight
6.8 lb
Baby
Although your baby is full term with fully functioning organs, his brain and nervous system will continue to develop well into childhood and his teen years.

You may be wondering what your baby will look like. Many parents are often surprised by the hair or eye color of their baby at birth, but note these characteristics may change as they grow older.
Body
Before your pregnancy your uterus weighed only two ounces. By now, it has stretched large enough to hold your baby and weighs around two and a half pounds. Your baby is now considered full-term but he or she will still continue to grow until you deliver.

Your breasts will also reach their full size and your overall weight gain will slow, stop or even drop a little. At this point, waiting for your baby is a challenge. Many practitioners recommend taking this time to relax and move towards planning and preparing for your time with your newborn.
Me:
This week has been really great, right until Friday.  I think my body just knew I was done with work.  Therefore, it has started to get just a little closer to bringing Pyper into our world.  There have been moments in the last couple of days were I think she could come out any minute, then other moments were I think she won't come out anytime soon.  I have been having constant Braxton Hicks, but they have not been painful, just annoying.  I have to pee every thirty minutes, and feel like I have gone poop 10 times in the last two days.   They say that maybe my body starting the cleansing process, but that can start up to two weeks before labor.
My water also never broke with Bo, so I have no idea what that feels like.  Last night I woke up in the middle of the night, and I felt kinda wet, so I started looking things up.  I could have either just sneezed in the middle night or I have a slow leak.  So I just changed and went back to bed, and I felt fine for the rest of the night.  I'm glad I have an appointment tomorrow morning, so I can make sure that I don't have a slow leak.

Week 38 (Wed)

Week 38 (Fri)

Week 38 (Sat)
It may be hard to tell in these pictures but she is really starting to drop

I feel like we are ready for her after this weekend, shopping is done, hospital tour is done, baby items are out of storage, laundry is done, prescriptions refilled, crib is back together, bags are packed and phone trees have been revisited. Now just need to wash the baby bottles, and wait for Pyper to want to make her appearance.

Since we had Bo, our hospital has created a while new building for expecting mothers.  It's called The Mother and Baby Center. (I don't want to put a link because I don't want people  looking for it to come to my blog, however you should look it up because the website has a lot of cool info on it.)
I am so excited to give birth there.  When we went on the tour I got a little teary eyed while we were touring, because it really hit me she could be here any day now.

Here are some pics of the new birthing center
One of the birthing rooms
One of the recovery room with memory foam beds (when I was there with Bo, the beds were so uncomfortable, so I am so EXCITED about the new beds)  They also have full sized couches for beds for Josh instead of the uncomfortable fold out chair)

Check out the bathrooms in our room
Each room is also equipped with 32" TV's with DVD players, as well as an I-pod doc.  The I-pod doc is really cool because we can listen to music while I labor.  The rooms are also a lot bigger, so when people come to visit they won't feel like they are sitting on top of each other.

Any day now.

Me:
This week I have been either really tired or full of energy.  I think I took more naps then Bo this last week, and have never been so thankful that she is so good at just laying down in her bed on her own then I have been this week.  I have had a really hard time falling asleep at night though even when I have been tired.  Everyone keeps asking me are you ready for Pyper to be here, and I can honestly say NO.  I really want to get through this week of work.  Being the lead of the SIP program really makes me feel like I need to finish it, even though we have a back-up plan, I like to finish what I start.  However after our tour of the new birthing center at Abbott on Saturday she is welcome to come at anytime.  I'm also looking forward to 6 weeks off before going back part time.
Week 37

It's about that time...

We are two and a half weeks away from our due date of July 9th, and we want to know your predictions on when our daughter will be welcomed into our world.  Take a minute to click on the link below and fill in your predictions.  Can't wait to see who is the closest.

Good Luck!

Baby Bumb #2 Week 36

Baby Size
18.75 in

Baby Weight
5.75 lb
Baby
Your baby is still gaining weight and becoming rounder in appearance. By the end of this week your baby will be considered full term.

The presention of your baby is likely head-down. For babies that are not, your practitioner may recommend an external cephalic version, a technique to manually manipulate your baby into the head-down position.
Body
Just a month away from your due date you're likely feeling very anxious for your baby to deliver. Your baby will continue to grow and the amniotic fluid that surrounds him or her will actually decrease a bit as your body absorbs some of it. This decreases the amount of room your baby has to move and this might also cause you to notice smaller fetal movement.
ME:
Between working nights/weekends and spending my days with my baby girl, this week has just flew by.  I have enjoyed that although I can still feel her moving they are less intense and don't hurt anymore.  I am really starting to enjoy every moment now, and seeing my crooked stomach just makes me laugh.  It has also been really cool to feel limbs from the outside and have Josh feel them too.  It is so weird how different pregnancy can be from one child to the next.  I am getting more and more excited to hold her in my arms.  With Bo I was ready to be done being pregnant around this time, but this time I really am not ready for her to come closer to her due date.  This might just be because I know I have to work until the 28th of June.

Baby
At this point, all of your baby's major organs should be nearly complete. Your baby's kidneys are completely developed and his liver is functional and capable of processing waste products.
Body
Around this time many practitioners recommend that a Group B streptococcus (GBS) culture be taken from the rectal and vaginal area. While harmless in most healthy adults, it can be passed onto your newborn during delivery and cause life-threatening infections. Many women are unaware they carry GBS in their system because it may not exhibit any symptoms. With proper preparations, testing and treatment, if necessary, overall risk is low.

Me:

She continues to try to keep up her daily exercises despite her running out of room!  She seems to be getting so much bigger, but I don't feel like I really am, I think she is just running out of room.  It is getting harder to get comfortable in any position I sit, or lay down in.  It has also been a lot harder to stay asleep having to get up 2-3 times a night to go pee. Usually by my 3:00pm bathroom wake-up I am wide awake, and can't fall back asleep until 5:00am.  So getting up at 6:30 has not always been so easy.  However with last Friday being my last 8-5 shift until Pyper gets here I might actually be able to get a little more rest.  One of the other things that no one ever talks about while your pregnant are the hemorrhoids that you get from the pressure of the baby.  I have been lucky with them not being painful, but boy are they gross.  I hope those go way fast after she is born.

Baby
The waxy protective coating, vernix, is becoming much thicker this week as the lanugo continues to shed and may be almost completely gone by now.

Inside your baby, the lungs are continuing to mature in preparation for breathing in the outside world.
Body
You might be feeling just like you did your first trimester, tired and exhausted. Your body is going through significant physical strain, not to mention the overall discomfort of all that extra weight and difficulty sleeping are playing their toll.

As your baby moves lower in the birth canal and exerts more pressure, some women have an uncomfortable sensation that the baby is about to fall out. Other women feel a pricking or tingling sensation in the pelvic area, also common and not something to worry about. These feelings may not go away until after you deliver. If you have concerns, talk to your medical practitioner.
ME:
This last week, the Braxton Hicks have really started to kick in almost on a daily basis.  Sometimes there short, and it's no big deal, but other times it has lasted for an hour, and our baby girl has tried to fight it by moving while the BH are happening.  FYI: that really sucks my whole stomach tightens, and she pushes in all directions.  I feel like she is trying to push her way out of my skin (think the movie Alien).  I talked to my midwife about this the other day and she said the the second babies BH are often worse then the first time around.  She also keeps telling me it only gets worse from here on out.  Oh yeah!  Most of the time though I really do forget that I'm pregnant, until I try to bend over, move something, going up stairs, or get out of a chair.  She is still really high too, so in the morning it continues to be hard to breath especially in the morning. Let the countdown begin, 1 more week of daycare for Bo, 1 more week of 8-5 workdays, then 3 weeks of evening shifts, and 5 more weeks until we get to meet our baby girl.  These next 5 weeks are going to just fly by.

Baby Weight

Baby
Over the next four weeks your baby will put on another half pound per week. This rapid weight gain will slow by next month.

The skeleton is also hardening although the bones in his skull will not fuse together completely, but will overlap allowing for continued growth all the way up until early adulthood.
Body
This month your body will still gain about a pound a week. You might find the extra weight makes it hard for you to get comfortable or sleep and you'll likely feel more tired this month than the previous. The extra fluid your body is retaining might also cause aching and numbness in your extremities; remember to stretch and rest frequently.

Me:

It has been much easier to track my blood sugars without the monitor and just watching what I eat.  I have just started to really check it only when I feel really off to see if I should eat more or not.  She is still really active mainly at night right after Bo goes to bed, and she doesn't stop for about 2 hours.  Sometimes I love it, and other times it just hurts and it brings tears to my eyes.  I can't wait for her to drop so I can breath and maybe not have her butt in my organs.  I might just have to wait until she comes out.  We are getting so excited to meet her and have her in our arms.

Baby Weight
3.75 lb
Baby
Your baby is really plumping up and will gain almost half his body weight by the time you deliver. This needed baby fat will help to keep your baby warm in the outside world. The layer of soft lanugo hair is also starting to shed.

Over the next few weeks your baby's real hair and skin will become soft and smooth.
Body
As you approach your due date it's normal to have anxiety. Now is a good time to discuss your birth plan with your practitioner to help ease some of your concerns or questions.

Inside your body you're likely to have more lower back pain as the growing weight of your uterus and belly pull your body forward and strains your back.
 Me:
I have been feeling great, I am just so tired by the time I get home from work, and Josh has really been such an amazing husband, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, etc.  I couldn't ask for a better husband.  Bo has also been a lot more clingy lately, I think she knows that she will have to fight for my attention soon, so she is trying to get all of it in right now.  I still haven't been sleeping through the night, I wake up at least twice a night.  Sometimes I can go right back to sleep (after my quick bathroom break), but most of the time I am up for a couple hours at a time.  At least twice a week Bo has been waking up with me crying for mommy, and as soon as I open the door she grabs her blanket and her choose of stuffed animal she wants and walks into our room.  She usually just says sleep with mommy, and wants to lay in bed with me.  She is so sweet its hard to say no, so I usually let her lay with me for a half an hour and send her back to bed, which she usually agrees to.
We have also started talking about our birth plan. I would like to have a water birth, but totally understand that what ever happens that day happens.  I believe in letting things just happen, women have been doing this since the beginning of time, and I am sure they did not have a birth plan.    Josh really didn't want me to have a water birth, but I reminded him that he was not the one delivering the baby.  He agreed, and said he would do what ever I felt most comfortable with.  I really wanted to have a water birth with Bo, but couldn't because of my increased blood pressure.  Crossing my fingers that that doesn't happen again. We will be delivering at Abbott again, and we are so excited to be in the new birthing center.  I can't believe how quickly she will be here.

Week 32

Baby Cleveland #2 Week 31

9 weeks to go...

This girl is so active and strong, she loves moving around for hours at a time.  Sometimes she has even brought me to tears because she has kicked or punched me for such a long time. I really love knowing that she is healthy, but man calm down sometimes.  If her movement in the womb is any indication of her personality she is going to be a firecracker.

Week 31
Baby Size
16.25 in

Baby Weight

Baby
This week your baby is gaining more weight as baby fat is filling in underneath the skin. Your baby's color is also becoming less red and more pink in color.

By now, your baby's irises can dilate and respond to changes in light.
Body
As you prepare yourself for your coming baby, your breasts are also working hard to prepare for your hungry baby. It's common to have some discharge or leaking of colostrum. Many women find comfort by going up a bra size and using nursing pads to prevent unexpected leaks.

Some women are just now experiencing their uterus practice for labor, Braxton Hicks contractions, which feel like sporadic uterine contractions. It can be difficult to distinguish Braxton Hicks contractions from the signs of preterm labor. If you are unsure and your contractions become longer, more intense and more frequent, call your practitioner immediately.

Week 31

Baby Cleveland #2 Week 30

Week 30

Ten weeks to go, I can't believe that she will be here in ten weeks.  There are so many things we haven't done yet.  Gotten her clothes out, put her crib back to a crib, found the pack-n-play for our room, figured out where the girls will go to daycare when I go back full time, etc.  However, there are so many things we have done, planned my maternity leave, found someone to watch the girls when I go back part time for 7 weeks, figured out her doctor (same as Bo's), figured out Aflac for my leave, talking to my boss about what I need to do before I leave for summer break, figured out who is going to take care of Bo, Pistol, and Wrigley when we're at the hospital.

As your baby continues to practice breathing you may notice a bout of the hiccups. Many mom's have described this feeling as a series of small twitches.
Body
With only 10 weeks to go you may wonder how much more your uterus will grow. By this time you may have gained anywhere from 25-35 pounds, depending on your pre-pregnancy weight, and you will continue to gain about a pound a week.

And for many women, as your due date approaches, it's a common and very normal time to feel more emotional than usual. You'll experience more frequent mood swings, and very likely some anxiety over the coming baby and the new responsibilities that lie ahead.
Week 30

Baby Cleveland #2 Week 27-29

I have been a little busy lately so I haven't had a whole lot of awake time outside of work and conferences.  (more about that later)

Week 27
Baby Size

Baby Weight
2 lb
Baby
This week your baby looks like a thinner, redder, more wrinkled version of what he will look like at birth, but in the next few weeks more fat will fill out his appearance. Your baby's immune system is continuing to mature as are your baby's lungs which are still practicing breathing amniotic fluid.
Body
Just when you were getting used to your second trimester, you may find new uncomfortable symptoms beginning during your third trimester. You may notice more leg cramps due to the pressure of your uterus on your veins and nerves running from your torso to your legs. Remember to stretch and move your legs to ease or prevent cramping.
Week 27

Week 28

Baby Size

Baby Weight

Baby
Your baby's brain has developed more tissue and has formed grooves on the surface. It's likely your baby has developed a more regular sleep schedule in 20 to 30 minute intervals.

If you're having a boy, his testes are migrating into his scrotum. If you're having a girl, the clitoris is beginning to form.
Body
Welcome to your third trimester! This is a common time to find out how your baby is positioned (presented), whether it's head first, feet first (breech), or sideways. Even still, in the next month your baby may still change positions.

This trimester you will likely increase your prenatal visits to every two weeks to ensure your pregnancy is progressing smoothly. If you are at risk for gestational diabetes or your last glucose screen test result was high, your doctor may have you take the 3-hour glucose tolerance test.

Week 28

Week 29

Baby Size

Baby Weight

Baby
Over the next three months your baby is in for a major growth spurt. Because of this, you may have noticed smaller movement inside your belly. This is due to the increasingly cramped space.

More importantly, you should still notice fetal movement and it's a good idea to monitor the frequency. You can do this by lying down in a quiet place. It's often recommended to do this after dinner when many babies are more responsive, generally between 7pm and midnight. If you have any concerns with your baby's movement, contact your practitioner.

Helpful hint: If you haven't already tried the BabyBump Kick Counter, now is a good time to start monitoring your baby's daily movement and kicks. Many practitioners will ask you to notify them if you notice a decline in fetal activity.
Body
Your third trimester will bring back some of the fatigue you felt in the first trimester. You body is working extra hard to carry oxygen and nutrients to your baby and your diaphragm will be pushed up by your still expanding uterus, causing you to feel short of breath. Fortunately, your baby will become very active and you can start to count your baby's kicks each day.

Week 29

Me: The last couple of weeks our baby girl has been crazy active for hours at a time.  I have also been trying really hard to monitor my blood sugars by trying to eat more protein and less sugars.  Not so easy when you are craving sugar.  I'm starting to get really sick of things I use to love like cottage cheese, string cheese, and eggs.  I need to start finding more inexpensive to get my protein in.

Baby
By now, your baby's lungs and brain are much more developed. In fact, your baby can likely detect light and dark through the optic nerve. Your baby can now also hear more than just your rumbling tummy, such as outside noises like your partner's voice.
Body
Earlier in your pregnancy your blood pressure probably dropped. But now, the reverse is in effect with your blood pressure increasing a bit.

And it's likely you'll still have an aching back as the weight of your belly continues to grow and shift forward. When moving or bending and lifting, it's important to maintain proper posture. For additional back support, some women favor maternity belts which provide support under your belly and stabilize your back.

 Me
I have been so nauseous this week I can't seem to keep anything down. This sucks!
This little girl can't stop moving, it's almost to annoying because it make me feel nauseous. However it has been amazing knowing she is so active which tells me that she healthy.

Bo loves talking to her sister, and feeling her move

Your baby's body parts are continuing to become more proportional to each other. Baby fat is also continuing to fill in your baby's wrinkled skin for a smoother look and more hair is growing, developing texture and color.
Body
Now roughly the size of a soccer ball, your uterus is halfway between your sternum and your bellybutton. All this growing might cause your stretched out skin to feel itchy in places. Try to relieve the itching with lotions and moisturizers.

On the flip side, you're probably still enjoying the fullness of your hair, actually caused by your hormones decreasing the shedding process. Unfortunately, this extra hair won't last after you've given birth.
Me
This last was a blur, with the funeral and spring break I just don't remember much from this last week, except that our baby loves sugar, and dancing in my belly.

Baby Cleveland #2 Week 23

Baby
Your baby is probably quite active by now and you should be able to feel movement or kicks in your belly. It might even be possible to see the movements on the surface of your skin.

Overall, your baby is now more proportioned from head size to the rest of the body and is looking more and more like a newborn.
Body
In preparation for labor, your uterus may begin to practice by exercising its muscles. Around this time some women experience warm-up contractions better known as Braxton Hicks contractions or false labor. These contractions are irregular and vary in intensity. Contact your medical practitioner if you have any concerns.

Me:
This last week has been so busy with the Gala coming up this weekend.  I can usually bring Gala projects home and work on them until wee hours in the night, but 8:30 is now my bed time.  This weekend will be interesting with my 15 hour shift on Sat.  Our baby girl is so active, and reminds me constantly of her strength. She also reminds me of how much more difficult it is to bend over for too long, and getting up and down off the floor.  We are getting more and more excited for Bo to have a little sister, and to hold our new blessing.

With all the rapidly developing senses in your baby, he should probably be able to sense what is upside down or right side up.

Your baby's respiratory system is also rapidly growing, lungs are developing in preparation for breathing, moving amniotic fluid in and out of the lungs. For now your baby still gets oxygen through your placenta.
Body
Your uterus is roughly two inches above your bellybutton. Around this time your medical practitioner may perform a glucose screen test to check for gestational diabetes which affects around 10% of all pregnant women. It can be a risk to you and your baby if left untreated. Gestational diabetes can make vaginal delivery difficult, causing a longer labor due to the baby's larger size, or it might make cesarean delivery required. However, the good news is that this condition often disappears for most women after pregnancy.

Me
I have really been so busy this week between the Gala and our family our poor baby girl has just had to go along for the ride.  Between being on my feet for hours at a time, and bending over to pick things up, she reminds me she is still there growing in there.  I think she can also tell that I am in need of getting things done.

Your baby's senses are really developing this week. Taste buds are forming and nerve endings are developed enough for your baby to experience the sensation of touch.
Body
Now that your baby bump is showing, you may find that you're the center of attention and people around you, even strangers, will take liberties to touch your belly. If you're uncomfortable with all this touch, it's okay to tell them.

Around your belly, buttocks, and hips you may notice tiny red lines or streaks, the beginning of stretch marks. As a preventative, some women swear by moisturizers, although medical practitioners will tell you that genetics plays a bigger role.
Me:
I have started to get a little uncomfortable if I sit up straight for to long.  I have found it to be easier to stand or sit sideways.  My back has been really tight, and it is so hard to stretch it.  However, I  busted out the my Snoogle and Wedge pillows, which has totally helped with my sleep patterns and back pain.  She has started to be a lot more active through the day, which is so fun feeling the flutters throughout my day.  She isn't making enough movements for others to feel her yet, but I can't wait to share this with Josh and Bo.  Pistol really loves to lay on my belly then ever she moves, I think he feels the flutters.  When he lays on her she calms down almost instantaneously.

As your baby's digestive system develops, he will begin to swallow amniotic fluid and absorb small amounts of sugar. However, most of your baby's nutrients are still delivered from the placenta.

Inside your uterus, while there's still room, your baby is actively moving around, kicking and flipping positions. You may be able to track patterns in his movement.

Helpful hint: Check out the BabyBump Kick Counter included in this app and track your baby's daily movement and kicks!
Body
For many women, this period marks the most comfortable stage of their pregnancy. Your first trimester discomforts have subsided and you've grown more accustomed to many of the changes in your body and you're finally beginning to enjoy that pregnancy "glow" you've been hearing about. Other welcome changes by some women are thicker hair, better skin condition, and increased breast size.
Me:
Nothing really exciting going this week, just keep getting bigger.  She is the most active at night after Bo goes to bed.  Otherwise, I have been so busy with work and visiting family this week has just flown by.

This week your baby's skin will become covered with a waxy-like substance called vernix which will protect his skin from becoming scratched or chapped.

Your baby is also starting to produce meconium, the result of digestion, which will accumulate in his bowels and eventually pass during delivery or in his first diaper.
Body
You've officially reached the halfway point of your pregnancy! At this stage your uterus is even with your bellybutton and you may have gained 10 to 13 pounds. You'll likely have your second major ultrasound soon where your doctor will check on your baby's development. If your baby cooperates you may even be able to determine the sex, if you choose to find out.
Me:
After finding out that we are having a girl, I have started to really image Bo having a little sister.  The moments they will share and the times they will have together. The weeks keep flying by, and I am getting more and more excited everyday to meet her.

Many of your baby's senses are developing as specialized areas in the brain are being designated for smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch.

Millions of motor neurons are continuing to develop in your baby's brain allowing more controlled and conscious movement.

Have you felt your baby kick yet? Don't forget to check out the BabyBump Kick Counter included in this app and track your baby's daily movement and kicks!
Body
Your growing belly is probably obvious to others around you and you may feel the physical effects of it too. Most pregnant women experience backache at some point during their pregnancy. You may notice discomfort in your posture as your center of gravity shifts forward putting more strain on your back. Hormonal increases also contribute to abdominal pain by relaxing the muscles around your waist allowing the uterus to grow.
Me
This week has flown by, and I can't believe that in less then a week we are going to know what our baby is and starting calling our baby by it's name.  We are still undecided on a girls name, but we have our boys name picked out.  Bo is completely convinced that she is having a brother and she is constantly touching my stomach saying baby, baby brother.  It's going to be really fun letting her come to the ultrasound with me, so she can see if she is going to have a baby brother or a baby sister.  The only complaint I have this week is that I have a had a kink in my neck all week and I can't seem to get rid of it.

Week 19
