Dr. Appointments {Pyper}

Pyper has had several doctor appointments this last month.  

She had stuff coming out of her nose and her eyeballs.  (I never knew you could snot could come out of you eye sockets, but I guess that's what happens when your so little).  So we took her in just to make sure it was just a cold. Our Pediatrician wasn't available so we had to go see someone else. This was such a pain in the but our apportionment was at 3:00, and we didn't get out other until after 5:00 pm.  I was glad to hear that it was just a really bad cold, which required her to get a Nebulizer with albuterol to help clear up the congestion and gunk in her lungs.  She also had a mild ear infection in her ear, and she said that it would most likely get better on it's own so it was my choice if I wanted to give her meds for it.  So I decided since she was already getting the albuterol.

After a week she didn't even mind

When we went in for her follow up with our pediatrician, we found out that her cold was cleared up, but now she had a double ear infection. Dr.B said that at that age ear infections don't clear up on their own because their little heads are so compact.  So medication it was and wow what a difference that made in her sleep and overall happiness.  Poor baby, wish the first Dr. would have just told me that and I would have had her feeling better two weeks sooner.

Pyper's 4 Month Doctor Appointment

Pyper's 4 Month Doctor Appointment and Stats:

Doing great no real concerns right now.  We had gone in a few weeks before because Pyper seemed to be extracting everything she ate within thirty minutes of her eating especially when she ate from her bottles.  We started adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to every 2 oz of  breast milk to help her slow down her processing it and keep it in her system longer.  This really seemed to help, she went from 3-4 poppy diapers a day to one everyday or every other day.  

When I talked to him about our last visit he thought that she might have had some kind of mild infection and stated that he doesn't think eating dairy has anything to do with it.  He went into this long explanation about how food digests in your body and how difficult it would be for milk enzymes to get into the breast milk.  (These are times I love and hate our pediatrician I love that he can explain things, but I hate that it takes him tell me things that could say in a quicker explanation.) Basically what he was saying was if it doesn't go into your blood stream in most likely doesn't effect your breast milk. (Things that go into your blood stream: caffeine, alcohol, and drugs).  All I know is that she seems to be doing better and she seems much happier and satisfied with her feedings.  

I plan to breastfeed only until she is six months and then start with more solids then.

Pyper's 2 Month Doctor appointment

The Dr. B said that Pyper has a herniated belly button, but he told me know to worry about it, and it will heal on it's own.

Pyper got all of her 2 month vaccines; three were shots and one was oral. The shots made her VERY angry, but she stopped crying as soon as I picked her up.  Bo gave her kisses, but almost started crying too because she was so sad for her sister.

You normally don't have a one month appointment, but because this was the first appointment we could get with our pediatrician Dr B. we decided to keep the appointment.  We did get her 2 month appointment scheduled with him though, and I am going to try to schedule the following appointments before I leave.  This will hopefully prevent us from having to go to different doctors all the time, and for me to remember to make the appointment.

Pyper is a healthy baby, and perfect in every way.  However, Dr. B said that he things she is not gaining enough weight.  He said at this point she should be gaining an ounce a day.  I told him that she eats all the time, but spits up a lot, and is constantly pooping and peeing (We go through about 20 diapers a day).  He told me not to worry to much, and just keep feeding her 8-12 times a day.  I might start actually documenting her feedings just to make sure she is eating enough though.

Our pediatrician is the only one at our clinic right now, so he didn't have  any appointments until the beginning of August.  Therefore, we had to go to a family doctor, but we made an appointment with our pediatrician for the first week of August.

Bo's 2 year doctor appointment...

... I mean 2 year 5 month physical.
We had gone in February to  do her two year appointment, but she ended up being really sick so they wanted us to reschedule, which we never got around to.
This appointment I actually really liked her doctor, and made the determination that as a new mom he is not very personable doctor, but as a toddler doctor he is so good.  He did her exam on his lap instead of having her sit on the table, and she was calm and did everything he asked her to.  (open wide, breath big, hop like a bunny)  She was just happy to go to the doctor.  (It might be because her new favorite song to sing is 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed).

Dr. B said she was a great listener, and seemed like she was really smart.  I feel like they are suppose to ask me a million questions about her development, but they never do.  Is that normal?  Maybe they just observe her just don't know if I am expecting somthing that doesn't really happen.  Opinions are welcome.  She only had to get one shot today her second Hep. A vaccine.  She did really good, I had her smiling then she gave her the shot, and she just looked at me like what the heck was that.  After she left she looked at me and said she poked me now I have a ochy, but then never talked about it again.  It was too cute.  Bo has a little fluid in her ear, not really bad, but Dr. B prescribed some meds just to make sure it cleared up.  I talked to him about Bo couching in the middle of the night, and that I was a little worried about allergies.  He listened to her chest and said it sounded fine, but it might just be that she has some drainage at night, and kids her age don't know how to clear it on there own.  He thinks she will grow out of it.

He talked to me about making sure that I use bug spray with deet.  to protect her from the West Nile.  He kinda went off on a tangent about how people shouldn't have their kids out by the fire after dark, and that they shouldn't go to the fireworks when there kids are so young because mosquito bites are not worth it.  He discussed that ticks need to come out within the first 48 hours because that is how long it takes the tick to really get into the blood stream.  The earlier you get it out the lower risk you have of contracting lyme disease.  Although he comes off as very matter of fact and sometimes goes off on tangents, I think that might be what I am starting like about him.

Follow-up Appointments

I promised follow-up from my appointments, but I never got to it.  Life just gets way to busy.

1. Ultrasound to check if I had a kidney stone, or just an active child

2. Meet with Nutritionist to talk about my diet and hypoglycemia

3. Follow-up appointment with my midwife

Appointment 1:

Bo and I went to the ultrasound early Thursday morning, I have really enjoyed having her at the ultrasound appointments.  She has been so well behaved for all of them.  I also think it has been really good for her to see her sister to help with her understanding of what is happening.  I had a wonderful ultrasound tech, she was so sweet, and Bo loved her.  She did her job of checking all of my organs to ensure that where no problems with any of them and especially looking for kidney stones.  Then she took a peek at our baby girl, she told me that she wasn't suppose to, but how could you not when your just right there.  I loved seeing our baby girl again, and as soon as Bo saw her she said "baby sister", to precious.  She also confirmed that she is a girl, and that she has hair.  (I can't wait to hold her.)  She also told me that although she can not officially tell me, but she thought everything looked good, and I most likely had bruising from our strong little girl.  They later called me to officially tell me that every thing was fine.

Appointment 2:

Thursday afternoon I headed to the Nutritionist to learn more about how I can eat to keep my blood sugars level.  What I learned that I need to eat 6 times a day, and only 30 carbs. at a time.  Who knew.  She also gave me a wonderful guide to how many carbs. are in the most common food items. I was amazed at some of the items and how many carbs.are in some of the foods I thought were good for me.  Like, a regular sized banana is 25-30 carbs.  She also recommended that I have a Extend bar right before I go to bed to help prevent my blood sugars from dropping over night.  My blood sugars were usually in the 70's when I woke up, and they should be in the 90's.  Now that I know what to eat and how to track my blood sugars, I have started to feel better, and less bitchy.  (I'm sure Josh is excited about that)

Appointment 3:

Tuesday I went to my midwife to do a follow-up from the previous week.  Everything was normal, and she just did the standard check-up.

The Reveal

Josh couldn't make it to the ultra sound appointment, so I had the technician check what the baby was and write it on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope.

What I did find out is that our baby looks good, we saw all 4 chambers of the heart and all the joints were connected were they are suppose to be.  Overall, our baby looks beautiful.

After the appointment Bo and I headed to the store to get some balloons so that we could all find out together when Josh got home from work.  I handed them the envelope and and took a walk around the store.  After they sealed up the box we headed home to wait.

I was certain it was a boy, so I was a bit in shock.  However, the shock is over, and I can't wait to for our baby girl to arrive.

Allergy Update

Update:  I got the test results back from my blood work

These are the notes from the Doctor

"Blood test suggests that you have suffered from autoimmune thyroid disease. Your thyroid function is normal. It is possible that you may have to use thyroid supplement in the future.

Blood test for gluten sensitive enteropathy (celiac disease) was also positive."

Which essentially means I will have to start to cut Gluten out of my diet, to see if this helps.

I am SO NOT happy about this.

I will also have to keep an eye on my thyroid, as there is a history of this in my family.

Allergies

So I not pregnant or breast feeding, so I finally made and appointment to get my allergies tested.

This is what the doctor said
"You have allergy nose and eye problem due to housed dust mites and tree and grass pollens. Your skin test was also positive to cat and dog. Although your history is not typical of animal allergy, I can not rule out the possibility of animal allergy completely.

Your main problem is hives. I feel that allergy may make this skin problem worse although systemic diseases should be ruled out."

Ways to keep it at bay

1. House dust control. (guess I have to vacuum our floors and bed, get newer pillows, dust and sweep more)

2. Clean our pets more often

Medications to take

1. Flonase 2 sprays to each nostril once a day.

2. Cetirizine (Zyrtec) 10 mg once a day as needed.

3. Albuterol as needed.

1. RTC in 3 months.

I have been allergic to these things as long as I can remember, but it used to only cause me to get stuffy, and make my eyes waters itchy. I did learn that my skin has suddenly just become more sensitive in the last 2 years, and there really isn't any thing I can do about it. 

Guess I'll have to just accept that I will have hives for the rest of my life.  =)

One year doctor appoitment

OK OK I know I am yet again another month behind on Bo's check-ups, but I guess if you think about it I was a month behind on her last check-up so really this check-up was right on time right?  I know I will try to be better at this next time.

Anyway Bo had another double ear infection, so we decided to to test her for allergies to see if that is what is causing all of her ear infections.  Poor girl got her one year shots (Hep A, MMR and second flu shot), and he blood drawn all within 20 minutes.  She was a real trooper though and as soon as she was done she was all smiles again. 

Sometimes I wish she would be crabby just so I would know what she was sick.

Teeth and RSV

Bo 4th and 5th teeth finally broke through

Bo has also been really sick these last couple of weeks.  She continued to have the double ear infection even with the antibiotics, and she started having a very raspy breathing.  We ended up taking her in and finding out that she had RSV, and we had to keep her out of daycare for several day's because it was contagious.  Luckily her oxygen levels were in the normal range (93%),so we got to take her home.  If she would have been any lower though we would have had to admit her to the hospital.  However, with the nebulizer treatment (this experience was so sad because Bo cried the whole time), she seemed to get better.  We ended up keeping her home until my Christmas break.

She has been feeling so much better lately, she has even been walking all over the place.  I think her equilibrium is finally normal again, making it so much easier to keep her balance.

9 month Dr. appoitment a month late

After cookie baking day, Bo woke up the next morning with bloody a bloody ear.  So I watched her and she seemed fine, but I figured I better take her in.  So Monday we stayed home, and Bo got a lot of sleep and I got some work done from home.  I decided to take her in, and figured I would finally get her 9 month check up in while I got her ears checked. 
(I have been really bad since I went back to work trying to get her check-ups in.)

She has a double ear infection and a little bit of a cold, more Amoxicillin grrr.

She also got her last dose of the Hep B.

Bo update!

Went to the doctor this morning, Bo has another double ear infect. 

You wouldn't know it by her attitude, just the ozzy coming out of her ear.

6 Month doctor apt (a little late)

Bo is one week shy of her 7 month birthday and I finally was able to get her in to see the doctor.  (which was almost postponed again because her doctor was sick, so we had to go see a new doctor, which I actually think I might like better.)

She got her 6 month shots today, and the doctor was shocked when she asked if she was rolling yet, and I told her she was crawling and pulling herself up on things.  When I asked her how close she was to average and she said she was a good two months ahead of schedule.  Kind of exciting, and makes you feel good as a parent.  I think we might have an athlete on our hands, and she will probably be walking before we know it.

Bo has her first tooth too, you can defiantly see it, but it's taking its sweet time to actually bust through.  Bo doesn't seem to mind though. Her diaper rash has cleared up, and she is far less crabby when you change her diaper.  It is so nice to know that all that craziness was because she was working so hard on that tooth.

I had today off since I have to work all weekend, so when it was time for daddy to come home we waited patiently by the window, it was too cute not to take pictures.  I'm not sure who's more excited though Bo or Pistol.

Bo's 4 month Dr. Appointment

Today we had Bo's 4 month doctor visit.

She got her next set of vacines, and we found out she has a double ear infection.

I still think that she is teething, my mom said that my sister use to get ear infects everytime she tried to get a new tooth, and the doctor didn't believe her either.

Our doctor bet me that she won't get them until she is 7 or 8 months. 

I guess we will have to wait and see who wins.

I also asked him about starting her on solids, and he said that it is recomended for breast feed babies to wait until 6 months.  However, if I wanted to start her on rice cereal I could.  I think I am going to  wait at least until the ear infects are gone before we start anything new.
